The TN classification is restricted to citizens of Canada and Mexico (lawful permanent residents do not qualify). The position must be on the USMCA Appendix 2 professional occupations list (~60+ professions — engineers, accountants, scientists, pharmacists, economists, lawyers, management consultants, medical/allied professionals, university teachers). Most occupations require a baccalaureate degree as a minimum; some allow state/provincial licence or professional certification. Job must be temporary and pre-arranged. Admission in increments of up to 3 years; no cumulative cap, but single intent (no green-card intent at entry). Canadians apply at the port of entry; Mexicans get a TN visa at a US consulate.
