O-1A Extraordinary Ability (Sciences/Education/Business/Athletics)

The O-1A is for individuals with extraordinary ability in sciences, education, business or athletics — a level of expertise indicating one is among the small percentage at the very top of the field. Evidence: receipt of a major, internationally recognized award (e.g. Nobel) OR meeting at least 3 of 8 regulatory criteria (8 CFR 214.2(o)): national/international prizes, membership requiring outstanding achievement, published material in major media, judging others' work, original contributions of major significance, scholarly articles, high salary, critical employment in distinguished orgs. Requires US petitioner (employer or agent). No self-petition. Initial 3 yrs; extensions in 1-year increments, no statutory cap.
