Directive (EU) 2016/801 (recast) covers non-EU researchers entering the EU under a hosting agreement with a research organisation approved by the Member State (Art. 8). Researchers must hold a doctoral degree or a qualification giving access to doctoral programmes (Art. 3(2)). Sufficient subsistence resources plus sickness insurance are required (Art. 7(1)). Authorisation is valid for ≥ 1 year or the hosting-agreement duration (Art. 18(1)); a 9-month post-research stay for job-search or entrepreneurship follows (Art. 25). Decision deadline: 90 days (60 if the host entity is approved, Art. 34).
